HazOp (HAZard and OPerability) is the leading method to identify site’s “top-events” related to the processes involved. HazOp is the perfect tool to understand what can go wrong in a site due to deviations from the design and operational intent.
Eidos supplies more than 400 hours/year of HazOp analysis to customers in the refinery field and has knowledge in the related processes: less wasted time for you!
Eidos has specific methods to apply HazOp analysis to ancillary system found in ordinary refineries.
Refinery-wide HazOp is usually applied on:
- A collection of plants. In this case please refer to Plant safety
- Ancillaries. For example: production and distribution network of hot-oil, slop collection network, etc. Due to their own nature, the deviation from the design and operational intent of these facilities can affect all the fed plants. The resulting top-events differ markedly from the ones identified during the HazOp of a single plant and they led to different top-events (the loss of fuel-gas to a furnace is a different scenario than the loss of fuel-gas to all the users, the loss of cooling water to one exchanger is a different top-event than the site-wide unavailability of cooling). The HazOp of the ancillaries refinery-wide HazOp is complementary to plant HazOp analysis of ancillaries.
As highlighted in Plant safety Hazop, to address the main implicit drawback of the HazOp method, Eidos usually provides the “Pre-HazOp safety review” that investigates the design and maintenance of the site ancillaries facilities before committing to HazOp sessions. The safety review is mainly based on API standards for design and maintenance.
Eidos provides the whole HazOp team (chairman/facilitator and scribe) at your refinery using one of the following languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and Catalan (so we are able to use the native languages of more than one billion people!).
